WebDAV authentication question

Hello

I want to set up webdav for my apache. The problem is that the server is used as a web server.
http://server/username/dav

I want the /dav folder on from webdav but every user could login to someone's /dav folder by typping just their username and password.

Can i restrict that and indeicate which directory belongs to whom?

I've not done this, but I think that you will have to have a configuration file per user/dav share to have effective security on each - either by putting one in /etc/httpd/conf.d, or by having a .htaccess file in each ~username/dav directory.

Alternatively, mediate Web access to home directories through another program that does authentication .e.g. install Usermin and only allow users to upload/download through Usermin's Web page.

Yes. Usermin doesn't actually use Apache, but is part of the Webmin framework which has it's own lightweight Web server, and Webmin can use PAM or it's own user database. A really excellent piece of software.

There are probably a lot of PHP and Perl scripts that generate upload/download browser pages, but I'm familiar with the Webmin system, so I used that as an example.
