web server dns help

Hi,
I have a fedora 2 box, which connects to my dsl router (dsl with static ip).
I have setup my router so port 80 points to the fedora box...
So if i browse http:/my ip on another computer outside the network it works 100%... now i have a domain name that i would like to point to the fedora box, but i have no idea how i have got about this. i know i have to set the dns but how??

All the tutorials i have read say install bind...but i need to set my router with the dns not the fedora box?? right?? wrong??

Any help greatly appreciated.

All you need to do is have the registrar of the domain name point it to your static ip address. Some registrar's (mine as an example) have a control panel where you can do this yourself. Mine took about 24 hours to propogate.

so i can just put my ip address in the dns server hostname??

thanks!! i expected it to be harder than that!!!

Hey TigerOC i get an error

'Please use a valid DNS Host Name (IP address not allowed.)'

any suggestions??

The usual procedure when you buy the domain name is that the domain name is given a place holder by the registrar so when you enter the domain name in a browser it resolves back to the registrar. The registrar will either have to be told or instructed to point the domain name to your ip address or the have facilities available for you to carry this out yourself i.e. the registrar needs to change the DNS records in their system. It has nothing to do with your system at all.
