Go to www.distrowatch.com and you can peruse a list of the most common linux distributions. If you're new to linux, maybe something like Mandrake, Suse, or RedHat is good to start.
|
the easiest ones are mandrake , fedora , suse , xandros 2
|
Don't forget lycoris. Lycoris is really simple, a good move from windows.

I say the previous posts are spot on. After you get comfortable, take your time think of Slackware -I just think it's the most able overall, though SuSe is good too

Start out with Suse, it's the best (only disadvantage is that you can't download the full distribution on iso, so you'll need to buy the CDs if you don't want a net-install)
I tested Fedora once, it seemed good to me but of the things I hear it seems like many noobs are having troubles with it (boot problem?). later-on you'll want to migrate to debian, gentoo or slack |
You can always get a second computer (a cheap oldie) and run a text only interface. Keeps you from using the graphic interface as a crutch.
