Wantning to delete ubuntu partition on laptop to install openSUSE 11.4
 

Hello guys,

I currently dual boot win7 and ubuntu, however, I've read that openSUSE is a much better option for laptop users. I want to remove my ubuntu partition and install openSUSE. How do I do this?
What I mean is, what do I about the dual boot screen? Is it it's own partition? Will I need to uninstall it along with ubuntu to install openSUSE?

Just go along with the openSUSE installation, and tell it to use the same partition is Ubuntu is installed on. It can then replace the bootloader.

There is really no "uninstall" process necessary for Ubuntu, you are installing right over top of it.

Just start the openSuse install. When it comes up to partitioning make sure that opensuse uses /dev/sda5 (your Ubuntu partition) as its /-partition. All other settings can be left at their default, as long as you don't want other configurations. Should work fine.

As always, don't forget to make a backup before making any changes on your system, if you don't have already, as recommended.

Gparted live is a wonderful tool that allows you to edit the partitions from a CD outside the OS.
