Wanted to shift to KUBUNTU from ubuntu 11.10
Hi,
I am now using ubuntu 11.10 and wanted to install kubuntu because of its kde desktop.. I am having a cd of kubuntu 9.10 is there any way to do this or I have to reinstall whole OS again. Please reply me |
You don't need to reinstall the system to have KDE, just install KDE and choose it at the login screen.
Using synaptic package manager you can easily install KDE and all dependencies, just type KDE in the filter. Regards |
Thanks dear,
I am thinking to shift to kubuntu and better if LTS version. In ubuntu I am feeling unstable. If I install kubuntu 9.10 then do I need to update too much? |
Kubuntu and Ubuntu are the same thing, the only different is the GUI(graphical user interface) Ubuntu uses Gnome and Kubuntu uses KDE, Xubuntu uses Xfce, they are all the same system just with different GUI. It would be a lot easier to just install the DE(Desktop Environment)/GUI you prefer, and by the way you can have as many DE/GUI you want there are many available for Linux, you can choose which one you want to use at the login screen. Ok dear,

Also tell me if softwares are different for gnome and kde? As some has K & some has G in their name.

1) To install kubuntu on ubuntu just open a Terminal and issue the command: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop.
2) You change from Gnome to KDE on the page where you input your username and password. Just click on "Session" and choose the one you want. 3) If you want to go pure Kubuntu and get rid of Gnome look here: http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/purekde |
Thanks dear.
I got it. |
