Question Want to set up a dsl router but have never used linux

My mother in law has a dsl service(Verizon). Her laptop is Ubuntu Linux. I have offered to help(she is 92), but I know absolutely nothing about Linux and do not think Verizon will be any help as they are only familiar with windows and Mac. I don't even know how to get to the equivalent of windows control panel . Any help, including a site with basic Linux use is greatly appreciated

Use the Menu Button, the entries are but intuitive.

Ubuntu runs a Network Manager so that should be an easy task.

Try click "Menu" -> "System" -> "Network" then you can fill up the dialogue with the necessary IP address, Subnet Mask, DNS which are given by the internet provider.

You also have an option to enable DHCP.

You have two tasks. One is to configure the linux system to work with isp. Two is to configure the router. What I do is let the router connect for me and offer a private ip for the lan. That way, it doesn't matter what OS is running.

Log on to the router either with windows or linux or what you have and connect to the router's web access page. Then using your isp's logon and password and settings, you ought to be able to get it to work. The ISP ought to provide ways and support on how to do that. Lucky for us, we now have devices like smart tv's tablets and such that don't work well unless the router or switch is configured to be the connection point.
