want to modify live cd

can i get the source code & other related codes,information about
live cd so that i can make changes in it??
Is it really possible to do this & also make install s/w after making necessary changes in the code.

this is not exactly a newbie question...
i have to go home after work to redo what i did to get knoppix-live-cd on my creative zen media player to remember.

I like 'Cooking Up Some Slack. (CUSS)' as I am a Slacker. If you do a google/linux for 'livecd' then you will get loads of information. Heck a LQ search will get you even more.
