Want to Buy a Laptop for use with Linux. Any suggestion?
I am in the process of buying a DELL INSPIRON 9400 E1705 2GHZ Dual Core 256MB ATI DVD+/-RW, 100GB HD,1GB RAM, 17", WUXGA, BlueTooth,WiFi.
The primary reason for this purchase is so that I could continue to run my windows apps and partition and also be able to run Linux. Do anyone think I would have a problem with the Linux part of my plan using the machine described above? Thanks |
Hello. A quick search on Google {DELL INSPIRON 9400 E1705 linux} reveals
Results 1 - 10 of about 789 for DELL INSPIRON 9400 E1705 linux . (0.22 seconds) http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/foru...read.php?t=218 http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...essage.id=7249 I certainly do not wish to be rude but have you searched for an answer? Also, if you are "in the process of buying" this laptop, surely you are beyond the point where anything I say really matters? You are going to buy it, aren't you? Wait for it to arrive and then *make* Linux work! ;) Good luck |
My advice would be to buy intel... that way everything (chipset, wifi, etc) will be intel and therefore drivers for linux will be available.

Set up a budget
Look in the HCl. Look in linux-laptop.net and tuxmobile Look at which models are used by laptop linux vendors IBM laptops seem well supported. Watch out acpi and suspend mode are not always working well In the end google for the exact model to see if anybody posted anything, for a start lspci +(model name) +linux (for example) |
