Want a reliable music file player for Red Hat
Hi. I am a noob to Red Hat but have previously used but am no expert with other linuxes such as Puppy and Ubuntu. Can anyone suggest a good music file player for Red Hat (or in general) ? I have many files that I have recorded from records and cassette tapes but Itunes/ Windows won't let me play them, saying that the ORIGINAL cannot be found, so I am switching back to Linux. Thank you. Admins- if this is in the wrong area feel free to move it. Thanks.

Thanks for your prompt reply. They are MP3s. Also, I am not settled on Red Hat, I am flexible at this point. Thanks.

1) Try running with mpg123 or mpg321
2) Audacious is good audio player |
If you're looking for a CLI music player, you should take a look at cmus.

For organising you music library as well as playing it I like Amarok. That comes with the KDE desktop. There's also VLC which is a nice player.

You should have rhythmbox installed. There are simple players, like VLC, and specialist music managers like Banshee. Have a look here:
http://linuxappfinder.com/multimedia/audiocdplayers On the subject of Red Hat: are you going to buy it? It's not cheap. If you've just downloaded the Red Hat disk, all you've got is a demo version: no updates or bug-fixes. |
Thank you all. Your help is much appreciated.

mind you it IS VERY EASY!!! to royally "bleep" up your rhel install with the third party repos that the multimedia software is in
REALLY EASY TO FUBAR YOUR INSTALL ( yes cap and bold) you need to take EXTREME CAUTION!!!!! rpmforge ( repoforge now) can conflict with the RHN base and update repo and install software that will REPLACE!!!! system files with DIFFERENT VERSIONS !!!!!!!! and thus KILLING your redhat install so install and CONFIGURE!!! the yum tool to help stop that from happening " yum - priorities " |
Try VLC
I am a big fan of the VLC Media player. I used it extensivly under Windows, and now Linux. One of the first things I did was to delete the preloaded Ubuntu media app and install VLC.
