Wallpaper issues

Greeting all. This is my first entry. I'm a former Windows user. I have loads of questions;
but for now, how do I re-size a pics for my desktop wallpaper? Please help. Cantus

You would use an image editing program, like Gimp. I am not familiar with that type of software, but I am pretty sure that many image viewers also support basic editing functions like resizing and rotating.

however most desktop managers have some option to
stretch, resize , or tile the image you use
now most new screens are set to 1920x1080
with a toolbar on bottom or sides

if the image is a tiny 320x240 px image
do not even bother to resize it
if it is say a OLD CRT size like 1024x768 or 800x600
you will need to reproportion it

Generally, it's easiest to use the wallpaper settings in the desktop environment/window manager, as John VV mentioned.

My two favorites for editing images are the GIMP and KolourPaint.

I generally use the GIMP, because I've gotten pretty good editing images with it, but it has so many features it can be confusing at first. My favorite GIMP tutorials are at http://blog.meetthegimp.org/. Watch the first three episodes and your friends will think you are an expert.
