W3School for Linux??

I need a lil help. I am quite experienced with Linux for past few years and Linux is my primary OS for business and personal use. Now few of my friends showed interest on Linux. They asked me how to learn Linux, which I replied, there are billions of online tutorials, blogs, communities to learn about Linux. But they dont want to get lost in ocean of Information, What they asked me that Is there any website similar to

www.w3schools.com which they can learn Linux from the basic.

Well, even I am good experienced in Linux, I dint have answer to them. So I ask you here, Is there any such resource, that newbies can learn about Linux just like w3schools teach html/php/etc ??

Thanx for your suggestions

Linux is all about practice.

I suggest that if they want to learn about linux, they should start with setting up their systems for dual booting (most Asian Indians cant afford a second computer just for learning) and set up a distro of their choice (or your choice - if you can take time out to guide them).

Then take it from the basics.

Buy them a good beginner book.

Definitely start from CLI.

OK.

Direct them to "www.tldp.org" for freely available guides. They are direct and to the point. Start from "Linux Intro". It's a good guide and is available in different formats such as HTML, PDF, etc.

You can also try this:

www.linuxzoo.net

and create a free account for yourself and enjoy playing with a Linux VM online with "root" privileges" Password is "secure" by default. Use PUTTY, for example, to ssh to "linuxzoo.net".

Suggest your friends to install VirtualBox and install a Linux OS with it. It's free. For further assistance, redirect your friends to www.linuxquestions.org of course!

Cheers!

I second the recommendation of tldp.org.

About dot com has a pretty good Linux section with several tutorials; it could be good for beginners.

Bookmarked. Fairly new to Linux myself (although Ubuntu being my primary OS at home for last several months), I will find them very useful. Thanks!
