w32codecs problem

Hi, i am new to linux and I am using Ubuntu Dapper. I just downloaded and installed w32codecs but they just dont seem to work! When I play a
wma, rm or mp3 file I get a message saying that "You do not have a decoder installed. You may need to install necessary plugins."

Please help!
