vsftpd problems

Hi, I have been having problems with vsftpd under debian sarge..
I edited my config file (/etc/vsftpd.conf) to stop anonymous FTP users, and allow local users (anonymous_enable=NO and local_enable=YES respectivly) - however, when I try to log in using my username and password, I get the error "This FTP Sever is anonymous only"

I read somewhere that I need to get vsftp to re-start to apply the changes I made to the *.conf file, but I've not sussed out how to get it to re-start.
I tried /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart, but this had no effect. I then tried to re-start inetd (I run vsftp through this) and again, nothing.. I'm now coming to the end of my fairly short tether, as I wan't this to be a user-only FTP, and not anonymous only!!
I hope someone can help!

TIA,
Tim

Any anwer to the original question? I am running into the same issue. Runs fine as anonymous, but I cannot for the life of me get it to require an actual user account.

Additionally I am running vsftpd under xinetd on FC3. I presume I just need to issue service xinetd restart to get vsftpd to recognize config file changes (hopefully as vsftpd will not stop).
