vpnc connection browser problems?

Hi,

I connect to the internet from school using vpnc.. (and not the cisco client that school provides). I have a strange problem.. after a few minutes of connection (10-20 mins), my browser starts showing a page that is displayed if you are trying to connect without a VPN client (default page asking you to install VPN client). I can ping websites through the console and also use stuff like amsn.. just not the browsers, which include firefox and konqueror.

Any ideas? i dont even know where to start troubleshooting it.

Thanks in advance,
