Volume adjutstment mystery

In alsamixer I've got 0 HD-Audio Generic and 1 HD-Audio Generic, with 1 set to default as 0 doesn't have any sliders. If I set default master to 94 with everything else at 80, my volume indicator in i3status says 92%. It is set to "default" "Master" mixer_idx=0. If I set it to mixer_idx=1 the indicator reads spec violation. Also, / and * aren't working in mplayer.

Thanks for any help!

Hi:

It sounds like one of the column's might be muted.

Try opening the terminal and run:
Code:
alsamixer
Raise all of the columns all the way up. Mute and un-mute each column if need be-
Do a sound test which is file "noise.wav

At the bottom of each column you'll see something like [00] which means un-muted and [mm] of course is muted.

You can also try opening the mixer and raise up the pcm and the master,
Adding yourself to the audio group log out and log back in again.

Make sure that you have the Linux Sound Architecture Driver

The file if you want to check in on it I think is in /etc/init.d/alsa-utils or
/usr/share/sounds/alsa

Hope that helps-

Sorry if I was ambiguous, but I have sound. Everything in Alsamixer besides master is unmuted and at 100. Just find it weird that the i3status indicator doesn't display the same as alsamixer. Thanks!
