Yes I/we can, point you in the right direction.

Okay, hook up a mike to the box, usually it's an orange plug that goes somewhere in a connection with a little mike underneath.
Hop into your settings (somewhere) and locate the alsamixer. Unmute the mike, chances are it's muted/deaf/tuned-off...

In the "multimedia" section, look for "sound recorder". Fire it up, hit the record, address the planet, select "File" and "Save as" - export.

Tinker with it, mileage will vary as there are some drivers to be considered.

Happy recording.

By the way, what kinda recording? Just notes? Then the method described here will do. Studio recording (music and stuff) - then you'll need something else. But, I'll see that in your reply.

thank you

i am just recording voice - or whatever sounds are in the room.

i was looking at a external card - this one:
Guillemot Hercules Gamesurround Muse XL Pocket LT3 + Headset

but if i could just get an externak mike, that is good.

I guess the better mic i got the better the voice recordings would be.

the info that you relayed is no were on the google net.

That's the main idea...indeed, just plug in the mike. If it's on, you should hear the feedback on the speakers. If so, you're in bizzness!

Does'nt need to be. Sniff around in the menus...that's where I found it. I did use Gnome2, though. I do not know what you're using...
