vncpasswd broken - says 'password too short' on Debian Etch

Hey guys,
I recently ordered a vServer with Debian Etch on it and now i kind of desperate because vncpasswd just won't work. When running it, it says:
Code:
Password too short
The Problem is: I can't even enter one. It just prints this line and exits.
What I also noticed was that after this happened I can no longer open man pages until the next reboot, as it says:
Code:
man: command exited with status 256: /usr/bin/zsoelim /tmp/zmaneFTrCR | /usr/bin/tbl | /usr/bin/nroff -mandoc -rLL=195n -rLT=195n -Tascii | /usr/bin/pager -s
Hope you can help me.

You might need to make a longer password. Or are you saying that's what you're trying to do with the vncpasswd command? As for man pages, vncpasswd is probably putting a lock on one of the files required to read man pages. That lock -- I think -- is somewhere in /var in a directory related to vnc. You might try killing all processes related to vnc, try running a man page and if that's successful try changing your vnc password to a longer one, at least eight characters. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the answer, but I'm pretty sure it was kind of really broken, because I hadn't even the chance to enter a password.
Anyway I had to install a new OS and picked a lenny distribution -> problem solved.
