Vmware workstation 6.5.2 running Backtrack 3
Hello,
I'm new to linux OS. I'm using HP Pavilion dv6-1030US laptop and I just downloaded vmware workstation 6.5.2 and downloaded backtrack 3(vmware version). I can't seem to install vmware tools and cannot get backtrack 3 to regonize my wireless card(Broadcom 4322AG 802.11a/b/gdraft-n Wi-fi Adapter). On VMware workstation, when I go to (VM), instead of the option install vmware tools, it shows "update vmware tools". I click on it and it gives me a popup screen that ask if I want to open a new window? PLEASE HELP I'M REALLY CONFUSED - BOTH WITH MY WIRELESS CARD AND VMWARE TOOLS!!!!
Any help would be appreciated.

It appears the vmware-tools are already installed, but probably an older version. Make sure the cdrom in VM/Settings is set to auto-detect or similar and not set to look at the Backtrack CD ISO as vmware needs to sent the package to the vm through the virtual CDrom. Make sure kernel-headers or kernel-source is installed in Backtrack along with gcc and make as you'll probably need to compile modules. The file vmware will send will probably end in .tar.gz or similar. You need to unpack it, then go into the unpacked folder to read instructions.
Drivers including install instructions for your wireless can be found here.

Odds are it won't recognize it as a wireless card. The whole point of a virtual machine is that all the hardware is virtual, and in VMware's case, the virtual network card appears as a wired one, even if the real one is wireless. Some USB wireless cards may work properly in a virtual machine, but it is a longshot.

According to what you posted, you are in the hybrid_wl directory, if there is a /root directory in this directory, then your Linux installation is buggy. My guess is that there is no /root in this directory, but the hybrid-portsrc.tar.gz file is, therefore you would need to issue command:tar -xzf hybrid-portsrc.tar.gz
