vmware server install trouble

Im running vmware-config.pl, it asks if I have a C compiler and then the location of the C header files. It states it is using compiler /usr/bin/gcc. And the default location for the files is is /usr/src/linux/include.

I have run the uname-r stuff and still no go. I have a feeling the files are there but not in the directories I have tried. I have hit numerous stites in searches, and many bring this up but non of them resolve my situation. I am running Ubuntu 10. Anyone have ideas?

Thanks

install headers

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`
the location should be here:

/usr/src/linux-headers-2.x.xx/include

I remember having trouble with headers before. I had a Unbuntu 5_10 running virtually, but not in a VMware environment. I have to did up my notes somewhere.

I had to create a file that said to obtain the headers on the CD instead if I recall. Give me a few days to search for my notes.
