VMWare 5 + Suse10 X not starting

Hi people.
I'm trying to install Suse 10 on VMware workstaion 5.
I have installed Suse booting from DVD, containing the linux OS.
The DVD player is external (USB interface).
Afee installation, i see that runlevel 5 loaded with some services skipped.
X does not start automatically, so i have type "startx" at promp, but i receive error message:

Code:
(EE) Failed to load "ChangeMe" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available

Fatal server error:
No screen found
i have launched "$ rpm -qa | grep 'XFree*"
and i have seen that Xfree86 is not installed!
But i have a XFree86.0.log, so...

Other problem is that i don't get to access to my Suse10 DVD, i don't to understand what i have to mount .

So please, help me!

Thanks

malcom

Malcom,

Try ripping the DVD to an ISO image with Nero or some other ripping software. Have it stored on the windows PC. When you are in VMWARE at the start page for the OS double Click on the CDROM under Devices. Click on the "Use ISO" under connections and choose the dvd.iso you ripped. This will allow for you to do a install from the ISO image. It is much faster and may circumvent any issues with the external device.

Also, SUSE 10 is only supported on Vmware 5.5.

Thank you for your answer RKON.
You seem expert about VMware,
so,
in WinXp box with VMware 5.0.0,
which distro would you choose ??
At home i have debian-like Ubuntu,
so i 'd like to taste a distro with rpm
packages manager, like Suse.

thank you again and bye

PS: That's your first post in Linuxquestions.org ?
Normally first post is a new topic about a problem ...

Your Welcome !!

I would not call myself an expert. I have used it for a couple of years and use it often enough for Work. I use RH and Suse. There is support for other distro's. Being owned by EMC the VMware software suppport for OS's will gravitate to the commercial versions for Linux distro's. You can find the supported versions on the vmware website.

Cheers
