Cool vlc playing the audio only and not showing the video

I am new to linux. I have installed the vlc player in fedora 15. In windows when i used to play my .mp4 format media files then they plays very well but now in linux (F15) vlc is only playing the audio and not showing the video. Suggest me a better way to solve this problem.

In menu Tools/Messages you should get information what goes wrong. Probably you have no required video codec.

Try launching media from the command line.

Open a terminal and enter

Code:
vlc /[path to]/[filename]
Post any error messages that appear when the media fails.

(You may want to try it first with a video that you know works to verify that, if it fails, the only variable is the selected file).
