VLC froze my PC what went wrong?

As the title implies, I was watching a video in VLC and everything went black and a sound was playing through the speakers and skipping.

What log can I check for information about what went wrong?

You should check multiple logs like:

kern.log saves kernel information such as warnings, errors etc.

There is an apport.log file which saves information about crashes in your system and reporting them.

Though I am no sure where are these logs if you use slackwere.. they are related for ubuntu, but you can search for "slackware logs"
