vlc and mplayer stop after playing first chapter?

vlc and mplayer both stop after playing the first chapter of the DVD 'Pan's Labyrinth', as it happens.

I've tried the chapter flag or whatever it is to mplayer and it makes no difference.

Any way to make them play it all the way throught? Great thanks any help.

Thats an interesting fault. Suggest you try the following, start vlc or mplayer from the terminal, once the chapter stops the terminal may output some useful information.

As two different programs are both stopping at the same point, it sounds as though theres a problem with the optics or the dvd is dirty. If you see read errors on the terminal this will confirm this.

Clean the DVD with a micro fibre cloth, you can buy DVD lens cleaners or use a computer grade air duster to inject air into the dvd player. Hope that helps

Thanks I'll try that, though I have had the same problem (perhaps not with both of them) in the past with different media.

does this happen to _ANY_ DVD ??? If so, the problem is not on the disk (perhaps the DVD drive is not working fine...)
Also why don't you try Xine for dvd playback. It's much better than VLC and MPlayer. You should also install libdvdcss to play encrypted DVDs.
