Virtual machine host which distro ????

Hi, I have a dell poweredge 2850 which doesnt support hardware virtulisation. I woiuld like to install linux as the host machine and then create several virtual machines.

What is the simplest linux os to install and set up to be a virtual machine host. I have been having all sorts of issues with KVM, Libvirt, Xen and qemu with no success. probably down to my lack of linux skills.

I think some of the things i mentioned above simply dont work with a cpu which is not capable of hardware virtulisation

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks you

VirtualBox did not recommend using hardware virtualization until version 3.x so I figure it should still run OK without it -- or you could install the latest 2.x which was very stable.

If you are primarily installing Linux to be a virtualization host you may want the most stable rather than the easiest to install -- if you are only doing a basic installation, enough to install virtualization software then you will not need to do a lot of the harder parts of the installation.
