Virtual Lan and RRDTools

Dear friends ,

I have the following two questions :

1) I am using Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 with a Lan card . I want to make a virtual Lan card with this PC . Is it possible to make a VIRTUAL Lan card of a Lnux Pc ?

2) I heard RRDtools is a One kind of database which is coming with MRTG and NTOP etc . But i want to configure RRDTool separately . Is it possible to make RRDTools separately which helps to measure Network Traffic of a PC ?

Plz Inform me.....thx...

what do you mean by a virtual lan card? are you talking about vlans??

rrdtool doesn't measure network traffic or anything, it is just a database specifically designed for holding data such as that obtained from network analysis tools. if you can obtain data from the network by your own manual means then you can easily interface to an rrd file using the rrdtool command toolsets.
