Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I have a ViewSonic A75f monitor running on Mandrake 9.1 and Windows 2000 Pro. Before, I had RedHat 8.0 dual-booting with Windows XP Pro. On RedHat and Mandrake, the monitor gave me this low-pitched, screeching noise. It seems to let out the noise every time I turn the monitor on after turning it off (or Linux turning it off), and at the same time, it gives the noise while I'm on the computer whatever I'm doing. It doesn't happen in Windows, just on Linux. My bro has the same, *exact* monitor and his Mandrake nor Windows gives him no problems whatsoever. I'm guessing it may be a bad pin or something, but that would produce a noise in Windows too (I'll check that out when I get home)... can't be the driver, bro has the same one... can't be Windows, he's dual-booting too... The noise happens almost completely randomnly and lasts for about 5 minutes or more at times. Urgh, irritating. Anyone have an idea of what it is? Maybe the refresh rate? Got to go to class. Thanks in advance.
