I am trying to download vLc from videolan.org. I am using Suse 10.2,

Here are the instructions

Download VLC media player for SUSE Linux using YaST
Add VideoLAN's repository
First, add a new repository (installation source) in YaST (YaST2 -> Software -> Installation Sources)

Add the following Repository:

Type: HTTP / Servername: download.videolan.org /
Directory: /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/<SUSE Version>

Replace <SUSE Version> in the Directory above with your installed SuSE Version. Supported at this time are :

10.0
10.1
10.2
10.3

Confirm the addition.

I forgot to get the message that pops up. Has anyone else had or having this problem. I will try again and post the message againThanks for any help.

I am a bit lost with your posting, about the message and about the problem: I don't see a problem. The text between "...instructions" and "I forgot..." describes roughly how to add Videolan as a software source so that you can use Yast to install VLC. You post in a forum "Newbie", so please don't be offended about my questions:

Do you know how to install software using Yast? Maybe you have already installed software with Yast; if so, you have installed from "repositories" preset (automatically) during installation of Suse.

Do you know how to add a "repository" (= source where software is stored) using Yast? I suppose you do not know, otherwise the instructions given by Videolan would have been sufficient.

If you cannot find instructions how to add a repository or how to install software with Yast, let us know.

Having read my post again, your right it does'nt make much sence.
I wrote that when i was a bit frustrated.

I am trying to download videolan from their web site.I followed the instructions that i posted. i though that that was all i had to do
to download the software. Apparently not
Could you make it clerer for me

That repository manager is very, very picky about what you put in. A slash too many or a character too few and won't accept your input. I think the best option now is to post your exact input.

maybe you just have added the videlan package list to yout yast.
but that's not all.
installing packages with yast isnt easy.

did you really install vlc (saw any progress-bar???)

1. Maybe you dont have to add the repostory list to your yast,
some main software server maybe has the vlc package, too.

2. When you've added the repository list to your yast,
you will still have to install the package.
Use the package search of yast (there should be one)
and type in videolan or just vlc
Then you'll fand the package.
Click on it - use "Install this package" (or something like that),
then follow your yast instruction (maybe he'll still ask you some
questions)
