Video Problem In Ubuntu

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 on ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro Graphics Card.
For getting optimal performance and enable compize-desktop settings yesterday I downloaded and installed latest driver for linux from ATI web page. After Installing driver I activated my driver from Administration-Driver option.
After activation I reboot the system.

But now when I am trying to watch full screen video the system hangs or the screen gets black
and the playback of the video is also not smooth in small screen.

What is the solution?
Please help me

Have you checked the /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see if there are any errors? They'll be indicated with "EE" in brackets (EE).
cheers,
jdk
