Video Player for RHEl5.1


Hi All,

I am a newbie to Linux.I am sorry if i am asking silly questions.

I have installed RHEL5.1 enterprise.I wanted to view videos which are of .avi format.

Can someone suggest me a best video player and detailed procedure in instatlling it.

call your paid for support and inatall vlc and mplayer( gnome-gui) and or Totem
from the red hat repos that you need to buy access to
"yum install vlc "

or install the free community supported port of RHEL 5
CentOS
http://www.centos.org/

i am thinking it is the unsupported trial version .
the one that you can not install anything on or update.

Probably an old cd set.

The trial, I downloaded last year was EL 5.3 .
Which at that time was the latest.

Its better that you install the latest release of RHEL (If you have the RHN subscription). Otherwise install centos 4.5 which is same as RHEL.

And for the videos, vlc is the best option as it runs all the formats.

just do

"yum install vlc"
