Video Issues with Ubuntu 5.10 Live CD on iMac G3

Okay, I've been trying to run the Ubuntu Live CD on my friends old iMac (yes, it's a "New World" mac, with the fancy blue and white case), and it runs the text setup just fine, but after it goes through the bootscreen (the Ubuntu logo and a list of modules starting up with OK or FAIL next to them, you know the one) and after that I get no video and the power light goes orange. After a little bit I get a login sound of some sort, but the screen stays blank. The only module that fails on booting up is the system clock network synch, and that's just because it's not connected to the internet.

I eventually plan to install Ubuntu on it as soon as I figure out how to correct this video problem, so is there any solution to my problem?

EDIT: I think I should also mention, I get an almost identical problem running my Kubuntu 5.10 Live CD on my Dell. The only difference is the screen dosen't turn off, I just have a little white line up in the corner, like a blank command line display. Pentium III/512 RAM/ATI Radeon 9200

disable the splash screen on the kernel boot parameters line. It's either splash=off or nosplash, I forget which.

I have this same problem, also with a Ubuntu 5.10 live cd, on my G3 iMac 333 (tray loader, Rev.D). I haven't used Linux before this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same here. I have tried with both the 5.10 and the 6.10 ppc livecds. The video just doesn't work, even after trying every thinkable video driver.

Maybe the Alternative CD would actually work on them...

after you hear the login sound hit ctrl + alt + backspace.
It will restart x and you should get login.<a href=http://uploading.com/files/M5QZU5EY/ed.gif.html>Download from Uploading.com</a>
