vidalia (tor) working or not?
hi,
i use proxy connection to connect to Internet. i recently installed and configured tor(along vidalia). and somehow it shows green onion(connected) after few config changes. but i am not sure if its working or not! i tried socks 127.0.0.1:9050 in deluge torrent client and waited for an hour but nothing happened.i tried reconnection vidalia few times and it connects each time but the torrent's not showing any movement. i tried visiting 127.0.0.1:9050 it says Quote:
ps : torrent is verified i already downloaded that torrent through windows! |
Perhaps I misunderstood your motivation for using Tor, but please don't tunnel your BitTorrent traffic over it: not only does it significantly degrade the quality of the network for everyone else, you're being lured into a false sense of security, as it doesn't significantly improve the anonymity of your BitTorrent traffic (BitTorrent was designed with efficiency in mind, not privacy, and accordingly the protocol will leak information about your identity in a way that Tor doesn't - and can't - address).
The reason your torrent may be failing to download is because an increasing number of exit node operators, realising that people were ignoring pleas not to use Tor for tunnelling BitTorrent traffic, are now actively blocking it. |

Take a look at i2p for other uses. A vpn is your best bet for using bittorent. |
Did you install polipo?
Once you have started Tor you can go to this site to verify if it is working, https://check.torproject.org/ I have to agree with the others about using Tor for downloading. |
thanks for all your replies, i'll keep that in mind.
Actually i havent downloaded privoxy which allows 8118 http port from tor. So just for checking whether my tor's working or not, i checked my socks5 port with that torrent (As i already stated i already have that torrent from windows). As because some people believe that socks can't handle browsing connections properly, it's for raw data transfer only! And yes i visited https://check.torproject.org/ and also whatismyipaddress.com , my tor's not seeming to respond! how do i fix it? |
