Very weird

About six months ago I installed Redhat9 in a dual boot pc with windows XP.
There are 3 hard drives, one with xp, one with Redhat and another being storage for my mp3s.
Under windows using winamp I had about 900mp3's (this is correct)
Under Redhat, XMMS would only 'see' about 700 of them :study:
I installed Suse over Redhat a few days ago and all of my mp3's are now recognised using the XMMS that comes with Suse-an older version than I was using with redhat.
Also XMMS is able to identify the song length much better, Redhat was never any good at this.
Any ideas as to what might have caused this, although its not a problem any more, its still very strange imho.

Are all the 900 songs MP3 files?
the XMMS comes with RH9 doesnt support mp3 playback, so it might not be able to recognize mp3 files....

Just a guess, anyway...

They are all mp3.
The XMMS i was using was the one with mp3 support, I was aware of the Redhat/mp3 issue.

Im using xmms that came with rh9.0 (xmms 1.2.7), just installed xmms-mp3. I read my mp3's from a ntfs data partition (bloody winblows), and it works perfectly. It plays more files than windows would, so for me its exactly the opposite. But anyway a problem like that wouldnt be a reason to change distro, for me. Did you try using an older version of xmms under rh?

Redhat was my first experience with Linux, I learnt a lot.
My birthday was approaching and SuSE seemed a good present;)
I never tried an older version of XMMS but kept updating it.
