Question Very newbie: Networking Probs. HELP....

Hi, My problem is I can browse from my Linux/Xebian box to my XP PC, but when I try and run a video clip it says I don't have permission, I can copy the file and run it but this is not what I want. I would like to run the file live accross the network.

I have checked all the security settings on XP But know very little (nothing) about Linux and suspect it's the problem.

Just to let you know, I am limited to what I can achieve due to Xebian being installed on an Xbox.

Hi Paradigm750, welcome to lq. Did you try mounting the directory the file is in?
good luck.

G'day Paradigm750, welcome to LQ.

I suspect that the video clip in question is hosted on your Linux box, and that you're trying to run it from your XP computer.

First of all congrats on getting the two talking with one another. A LOT of people on this board have trouble getting samba up and running properly.

I do suspect that it is a permission problem on your linux. Open up a console and try the following.

Code:
su
input the root password
cd directory-where-the-video-clip-is-stored
chmod 755 ./video-clip-name-here.mpg
Then try running the video clip from your XP box again.

Cheers

Tap

Hello, and thanks for the quick response.

Re the reply above (Tap-Out), the video file is on my XP box and I would like to run this live on my Linux machine.

I have not had a chance to try and mount the directory. Could someone maybe explain how I would do this - remember I have to ssh into my Linux box from the xp machine.

Thanks, Hope I am not being to much of a pain in the ***

I'm not clear what this has to do with it.
good luck.
