Vector Linux/slackware, cannot print on Canon MP 280 printer
I added the printer in 'printing' setting, printer installed successfully but wont print anything. I had tried installing HPLIP to use it to print instead of cups but couldn't get it running. Any solutions folks?

I have no solution to offer, but if you go to forum.vectorlinux.com you will have a chance to directly communicate with the distro developers.

HPLIP likely won't work with none HP printers.
I couldn't find anything about it at the open printing database. I took a quick look at the Canon site and they do not support this printer on Linux. This does not offer much hope. Fogpipe's suggestion is likely the best option. |
Canon do support this printer:

Nice catch, David McCann.
Odd, when I went to the Canon page to download drivers for this printer, a message to the effect that my operation system was not supported appeared. I was at the Canon page for North American/USA. Perhaps Canon's right hand and left hand aren't talking. |
Actually there is some truth in HPLIP usage a few of the Canon-MP's rely on HP Technology.
To get it to work you also need Gutenprint, foomatic-db-nonfree foomatic-filters splix installed in CUPS and the trick seems to be that most of the MP printers work by using the IP1500 Gutenprint driver. |
