/var deleted issue


how to restore var directory after I deleted it,now cant run cmnds which involves apt utility as i have removed the /var structure completely and when rebooted after deleting i have no gui.

probably you need to reinstall your system.

It will be easier to either restore your backup or, if for whatever reason you don't have one, reinstall the system. With deleting /var you have deleted essential information not only for the package management system, but also for a whole bunch of other programs.

I think there should be a sticky thread created, linking to posts like this. The thread can be titled "Why shouldn't I log in as root?".

I couldn't agree more. Someone skilled at writing up such things and "best practice" methods after damaging their systems, then closed the thread.
