I've got the Lindows 4.5 full install on CD. I *tried* installing it on my 8GB USB external HD. It installed on the drive just fine, but it blew my WinXP drive-specifically the MBR-to hell and gone. I've since recovered WinXP, but I don't want to go through that nightmare again. Is there a distro that does a better job of installing onto an external USB HD? Or, should I carve off a partition from my 120GB internal drive and install there? Currently my Vaio has 15GB C:, 100GB D: and a special 5GB 'recovery' partition. I could also sneak the 8GB drive into the box.
Currently, the system recognizes the USB HD when I turn it on, however I have not set up anything to specify that this is a boot drive in the bios. There is a setting for booting from a USB FDD but there is no setting for a USB HD. Am I SOL and should put the HD in the box?
Either way, I'm thinking that maybe Lindows would not be the best for creating/accessing apps. I'd rather not rely upon CNR as it does not have ArahWeave on the list, and that is only available as an RPM. Would Mandrake be better?
