We'll be glad to try to help you...but unless you provide useful details, there's nothing we can tell you. Your question is far to vague; you don't tell us what version/distro of Linux, what kind of printer, how it's connected, what you've done/tried so far, etc.

Most Linux systems these days have CUPS installed, and HP Printers have HPLIP. Couple those with the system-administration tools, and it's very easy to set up a printer and test it.

Hi,

running linuxmint Olivia 15 wt. cinnamon 64 bit, Ubuntu ver. printer is HP-c1300 on usb. Tried the Mac cd but no joy. I really don't have any idea what to do, what is HPLIB? a libary in the printer, thanks.

Generally Ubuntu detects printers and does all the setup for you. Go into Ubuntu's Control Center and enter the printer manager and see if you can add it manually. There should be a series of menus where you pick Brand/Series/Model etc.

Not too clear what you're saying...do you mean you're running 64 bit Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop? What does Ubuntu have to do with it??

...and guessing here that you mean the printer is CONNECTED via USB, right? And what do you mean by "tried the Mac CD"?? What did you do with it?? A Mac driver won't work with Linux, anymore than a Windows driver will work on a Mac.

The Linux Mint forums have lots on how to easily set up printers:
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1200

Press "alt-f2" or open a terminal window. Type in "system-config-printer" and press ENTER. Fill in the blanks.

As written above, it's HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing)...a quick Google search would tell you what it is:

Hi,

many thanks to all who replied with the great info concerning my printer, really appreciate it, yes Mac Isn't Linux though I'd try it anyway. I found the HPLIP in the software manager and installed it and now I can see the (printer/fax) etc.in the application index, will try it tomorrow, thanks again.

Bill
