Question using Sendmail on CentOS5 - changing from qMail

I have a CentOS 5 box that needs to run sendmail for the software I need to install on it, however qMail is the default and I need to make sure I change this properly. I have changed it via the command
Code:
alternatives --mta
and selected /usr/bin/sendmail.sendmail from the list. I have then run service qmail stop and service sendmail start and all seems ok.

On running telnet localhost 25 I see:
Code:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
220 XXXX001.local ESMTP
rather than the expected
Code:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
220 XXXX001.local ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.1/8.12.1; Fri, 28 Dec 2001 11:39:34 -0800
showing the version number.

Can someone tell me what else I need to do to get this working?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

Running
Code:
netstat -tapl|grep smtp
should tell you who's listening on the smtp port

BTW, qmail comes with a sendmail binary for compatibility with apps that require sendmail. So you should have checked if your software works with the qmail sendmail binary prior changing MTAs

Regards
