using root login im not able to login

Hello,

I am using Putty to login to a remote machine, I am not able to login as root. If I try loging using some other valid username and then tried "su" command, to login as root.

I want to know why remote machine not allowing me to login as root. If I want to login I have login using some other username then from there login as root.

Also, because of this I'm not able to login to MySQL server running on the same remote machine.

Can any one tell how to tackle this problem.

Thank you.

Regards,
kath.

You shouldn't need to log in as root to perform your tasks. This is a security feature, you should NOT allow root login. However, if you wanted to change that, look at your sshd_config.

Disabling the root access via ssh (which PuTTy uses) is a typical security feature. If you want to enable the root user to login via ssh (which I wouldn't advise), you will need to modify the configuration file for the ssh server on the remove machine.

You will actually need to uncomment the line "#PermitRootLogin yes"

Is there any way I can connect to MySQL server. I am using Navicat to connect to MySQL which requires me to connect through SSH. Can I directly login to MySQL without using the SSH connection.

This is because I want to MySQL(remote server) through Python, I am not able to connect though I have created username in MySQL user table with required permission. Is there any way I can make MySQL to remote login?

Thanks.

Regards,
kath
