Using parted

I wanted use the program parted to resize my only partition to make room for new partitions however when i was about to use the resize command it came up with an error

Error: Partition /dev/sda1 is being used. Modifying it while it is in use couldcause severe corruption.
Ignore/Cancel?

Can I ignore this or is there a way I can boot the computer so that I am not using sda1 while I resize the partition

What SCSI/SATA controller are you using?
Which version of Knoppix have you got?

I don't know whether Knoppix supports SATA
yet, but most SCSI controllers should be fine.

Tink
