using my microphone in skype on kubuntu 9.10

im trying to use my microphone on kubuntu 9.10 so i can chat on skype with my friends like on windows. since i installed kubuntu a few weeks ago i've been using it primarily. i am using a toshiba laptop and i wanted to know if my toshiba microphone could work with kubuntu. i tried changing the microphone in the options menu. my microphone did not show up in the menu but i tried them all anyways. my video camera works perfectly with skype but my microphone doesnt. do i have to get an external microphone to talk to my friends?

i have found the solution to the problem.i had to enter the sound mixer and add the microphone into the channels. for me i needed to allow the front mic. i also checked off "allow skype to change mixer settings" in skype sound settings.
