using MSTS in Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid}
Hi - anyone out there running microsoft train simulator under Ubuntu 8.1o -assistance required please
What exactly do you need help with? I say this because your post doesn't really tell what you are needing help with.
my reply post dont seem to be getting through - I must be doing something wrong
Ah now I seem to have got it right. Try again. The problem I am having is that when I load Microsoft Train Simulator all I get is a black screen. Someone suggested it might be a directx issue as this is what it runs on. I can however read the accompanying MSTS manual. Thanx Dave

If that is the case, have you tried to load directX 9 or 10 using wine? if not that will probably be the next step. So I would load direct X and see what you get. Looks like it uses direct X 7.0a so I would try first using 9 and see if that helpd. If it doesn't then I would remove that and got o 7.0a
ok downloaded directx 9 onto my desktop but not sure where to install it in Ubuntu. Dave
go to a terminal and type in wine ./Desktop/directx.exe or what ever the exe is for the file. How did you install the Microsoft train simulator for Ubuntu?
I installled it with wine
Thanx for your help but I think I better go back to vista - too much for an old geezer like me. Take care Dave
