Using LVM to manage parttions in Suse

Hi there
Can anyone help me in using LVM to manage partitions in SUSE? I am running Suse 64 bit edition, dual booting with Windows XP. Since I am relatively new to Linux I went with the default partition options offered by SUSE during installation. Now I would like to learn to use LVM to either reduce the Windows installation or to do away with it altogether.

Should I have chosen LVM to manage partitions at the time of installation in order to use it? I get an error message when trying to add volume groups and I am unable to understand what it means. When I go into the Partion manager in Yast and try to click on LVM, it suggests that at least one partition label should be changed to a Linux label. It also suggests that I click on 'Create' and then 'Do not format' and then choose the appropriate label. But when I click on Create, I get a message saying that no addtional space is available in any of the selectable partitions and so on....I never get to the option of 'Do not format'.

Thanks for anyone who can help, I would really appreciate it!
Regards

What is your end goal?

I am not sure that LVM is the right tool for resizing partitions--esp Windows. If you want to simply DELETE a partition, then use fdisk, cfdisk, or similar.

I have never used LVM, but I thought it was for creating combinations of partitions that would behave as one.
