Using Linux to Format Drive

I was using Windows Xp, but as it usually does it just decided to die. I tried to re instal xp but the c drive is corrupted and it couldnt format the drive. I have a Mandrake Move live cd that runs, is there any way to format my c drive using it?

yes

im not 100% sure if mandrake move supports this but it should,

mkdosfs /dev/hda1

that will format your first partition on your first hard drive (probly c: in windows)

make sure your formatting the right one.

oh and you need to be logged in as root i think

I've never used Mandrake Move live CD, but if Mandrake Move live CD uses KDE you need to open Konsole and I cant remember what the console in Gnome is called. If Mandrake Move live CD is anything like Knoppix than their should be an icon to Konsole in the 'quick start' area of the 'status bar'.

Sorry, had to use windows terms so he would know where to find it.
