To install grub:

In a comand line type: "/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda

To boot to CLI:

Type "emacs /etc/inittab"

There this a line that says:
# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:5:initdefault:

Change the 5 to a 3.
