Using INF Files

I would put this in hardware, but I'm a :newbie: and just want a question answered.
I'm using Knoppix Live.
the /etc/* dir includes a /hcf/ directory. In that directory, there are 4 inf files. One of which is useable for my modem.
Only problem is, Knoppix doesn't detect my modem, so...how do I use that .inf file and get my modem to work?

Have a look at the instructions.
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/

You'll need to repeat this everytime you boot your live-cd, installing knopix to your hard drive would remove this limitation - and would enable you to install the latest version of the drivers - another option would be to remaster the iso, a big ask for a newbie, and one that I would not recomend.

Ok, I found out two things (my how I've grown in such a short time :).) Those inf files aren't there by default. I thought I restarted after the failed install and they were there. Nope. It was same session as the install.

So, I DLed the Linuxant .tar.gz drivers. Everything works except the installs to the /usr directory.

I've even tried 777'ing ALL of /usr. No Dice. /usr is read-only and on the CD only.

So I'm outta luck there.
So...
Are my only final options:
Remaster
or
Buy a linmodem?
