To start installation through http and ftp, append this to the kernel line in grub

method=ftp://<path>
method=http://<path>

In general you would copy the installation files to the server and then configure either FTP or HTTP to allow access to the desired directories. Copy/burn the desired boot image (many distributions have a minimal CD or USB boot image) to the desired media and either use the suggested kernel option or most installers will ask for the desired method and path to the installation files. The exact steps will be different depending on the distribution.
