Using expired DHCP lease

I have configured my laptop's wireless using madwifi.

I initialize it manually using the following commands:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid "worknetwork"
iwconfig wlan0 mode managed
dhclient wlan0

This has seemed to work fine for several months. However, I just got an email from my system administrator that my computer has been using an expired DHCP lease for the past few days. I checked and noticed that dhclient was no longer running (probably had gotten killed at some point). But, I guess ifconfig had continued to use the IP address.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way to configure my wireless? Or do I just need to make sure that dhclient does not get killed?

Thanks!

DHCP should automatically renew and release. If you're still using an expired lease, that sounds more like an issue on the DHCP servers end. I'd tell your system administrator to check his systems before sending out stupid emails.

Now unless you have it configured statically in your configs, then go change it to use DHCP.
