Question using apt-get to install samba

I want to use apt-get to install samba on my debian server. I recently trashed what I had and started all over, and samba isn't installed by default. Anyway, when I type apt-get install samba, I'm told "package samba has no installation candidate." I'm pretty sure that is because of the settings in my sources.list. All I've got in there right now is this:

deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free
deb http://non-us.debian.org/ woody/non-US main contrib non-free
deb ftp://security.debian.org/debian-security stable/updates main contrib non-free

I want to add the samba site to the list, but I have no idea what I should put in there. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jesse

did you write this yourself?

you're right... after a quick browse, (i386 platform) i did not see it, but i saw samba under 'stable'... which ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/README says is the same as woody... perhaps you can just change that...

I just tried changing woody to stable, and I got the same results. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Jesse

what do you need in regards to samba?

is it also giving you something like 'Package samba is not available, but is referred to by another package?'

try installing samba-common

i'll look into apt conf syntax, but it'll take me a little while...

I am starting to think that the reason that I can't access it is because I cannot access the Internet. I just tried lynx www.google.com, and it can't get there. I believe in the process of setting up the network, I left the dns settings blank. But, I don't know where to set those up.
