Okay, elaborate plan:
- I have a Dell Dimension B110 running SuSE Linux 10.1.
- It has a modem installed (PCI card, not onboard). yast2's hwinfo identifies it under PCI devices as a "HSF 56k Data/Fax Modem" with the brand "Conexant."
- yast2's modem module doesn't see the modem.
- I don't see a /dev/modem if that's where the device should be.
So, does this mean the modem is properly installed with the necessary drivers, or do I need to do more? I'm guessing it's a winmodem given Dell is cheap, so more drivers are necessary.
Second, once that works: my objective with the modem isn't to connect to the Internet or fax or anything like that, but instead log incoming caller IDs. It shouldn't pick up on the calls, but just be aware of who's calling if caller ID is available. Anybody know of a system of doing that (or for that matter, if this modem is capable of doing so)?
Thanks for any help.
